Bye Bye Baby Stage- There’s No Turning Back!
With a 4 year old daughter and a 19 month old son, we decided that our family is complete. We have started liquidating all things baby. Maybe it was last week’s beautiful weather that triggered spring cleaning but there is something deeply satisfying about knowing this phase of our lives is over and being able to share the wealth of baby items that we have with others.
This weekend my husband and I sorted clothes, photographed baby gear, and wrote descriptions for multiple CraigsList listings. We’ve advertised items to our local moms listserv. We’ve tagged certain items for consignment, separated the give aways for friends and neighbors with newborns, and decided that others were keepers because of the memories attached to them.
We’ve done all of this without looking back and feeling any sort of remorse about getting rid of things. We are done. We have left the baby stage.

- I enjoy conversations that I have with our 4 year old and love that our 19 month old is becoming a better communicator as he learns more new words every day
- I delight in the fact that everything we need for an outing can fit into a regular purse and my days as a sherpa seem to be over
- I am amazed by the creative play and the fact that I am always invited to participate in whatever their imaginations dream up
- I treasure every book I am handed to read because I remember the days when attention spans were too short to even get through a sentence
- I like going out to restaurants and having our children try different cuisines
- I relish the freedom of going stroller-free
I love that our children are older but I do miss the first year: The incredible baby smell, snuggling a sleepy cuddly newborn who conforms to your body during naps, the portability of having a child who fits in an infant carrier, the amazing growth and rate of change…
As amazing as the baby years are, I cherish the memories of my daughter and son as they were. There’s no turning back for us but luckily we have plenty of friends with babies on the way who will be the recipients of all my love, affection, and admiration.
